Beginner: Need to make some money fast

Hi,

I want to be able to start generating money relatively soon, so that I can kick my current job to the curb. It takes up too much time, and stops me doing what I really want to be doing.

I have heard people saying that I should offer a service - trouble is, to be noticed, and regarded means having done some SEO. Even though this is one of the services I'd like to offer, I'm wondering if I should get some SEO done myself, to boost traffic, and get things crackalackin? Any thoughts, or are there other ways that one person could generate decent traffic in a short time, and get people interest in the service?

My background is in technology, been in that game for 15 years - I love technology, so could possibly do something here?

Also wondering if there are any kind IMers out there who would take a good guy like myself under their wing, and help them along a little, with advice like, buy this, study this, do this, read this etc. It's currently slow as I research I find new ideas and ask, but suspect I will have to get back into doing what I have been doing soon as I will run out of cash.
