Just “follow your passion” and the money will follow, right?
Sure, if there’s money in the niche and if you’re great at what you do, and if you do something that people would actually pay you for.
Cal Newport debunks the idea that “follow your passion” is good advice in his book, So Good They Can’t Ignore You. The surprise? … “Passion comes after you put in the hard work to become excellent at something valuable, not before. In other words, what you do for a living is much less important than how you do it.”
In sum, a perfectly great way not to make money is to be so bad they *can* ignore you.
